Turn over a new (beauty) leaf for autumn
A new season always calls for a rethink of our beauty routines.
Out with the old, in with the new, as they say. And there’s no better time than when we kiss those hot, humid, summer days goodbye and move to misty, mellow mornings.
I can take the guesswork out of your beauty routine with these autumnal tips and advice.
Exfoliate for a brighter, smoother you
Exfoliation removes dead cells, revealing a bright, more even-toned complexion. It also improves the efficiency of your skincare products, such as serums and moisturizers.
Twice a week is usually enough for your face and neck. My personal preference is for a gentler chemical exfoliant like Eltraderm Enzyme Exfoliant over harsh scrubs. There are also some great mask options that you can apply at bedtime and go to bed with it on. Try Yonka’s Glyconight Mask with 10% glycolic acid.
Don’t stop at your face and neck. If your routine doesn’t already include a top-to-toe exfoliation now is the perfect time to start. A couple of times each week buff away those rough patches on your arms, elbows, knees, back and legs with Yonka Sugar Body Scrub or GM Collin Body Sweet Gommage. Follow by slathering on a deep body moisturizer like GM Collin Body Melt-in-Balm, which is lightweight and non-greasy but really hydrates. Apply while your skin is still damp as this lets your skin capture and seal in the moisture more easily.
An autumn glow
The combination of wet, windy weather, central heating and steaming hot showers can leave skin feeling drier, sensitive and liable to breakouts. As the temperature drops why not treat yourself to a professional facial. We’ll give your complexion a deep cleanse and comprehensive reboot, together with bespoke advice on how to deal with specific issues. Fall for sunscreen
UV rays don’t take a season off. Neither should your sunscreen.
As the days cool, sunscreen is your skin’s best friend. Wear SPF 30+ every day to protect your skin from the damaging and ageing effects of the sun.
This is especially important to help protect your skin when using any retinol products which brings me neatly to…
Retinol for autumn skincare
Retinol can be a game changer for skin.
It’s a form of vitamin A that speeds up skin cell turnover to improve texture, the appearance of fine lines and to brighten skin tone for a radiant autumn glow.
It comes in different strengths, and I recommend starting low then increase gradually – you need to take professional advice. Start using it a couple of times a week at the first signs of premature ageing. Increase until you’re applying it every night or as instructed.
It does make skin more sun sensitive, so autumn is the ideal time to start it.
Keep glowing into autumn
As summer fades your sun-kissed glow doesn’t have to. Extend that golden glow into autumn with a streak-free, natural looking tan from one of our professionals.
Refresh, rehydrate, rejuvenate
Humidity decreases in autumn leaving skin feeling parched of moisture and tight.
Choosing a moisturizer and a serum like Eltraderm HyaluronE cream (20% off in September) and Eltraderm MultiPlex HA Serum, packed with hyaluronic acid, will pay dividends to your fall skincare routine.
This super hydrating ingredient, which holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water, softens and plumps fine lines leaving skin looking healthy, hydrated and dewy.
Don’t neglect…
And finally, don’t forget hands and lips which can often be neglected. Nourish and hydrate lips with a lip balm like Jane Iredale Lip Drink with a in-built SPF to defend against UV damage. Packed with nourishing oils, it softens and soothes delicate skin and helps prevent cracking.
Intensively nourish hardworking hands with an easily absorbed hand cream like GM Collin Soft Hands cream and don’t forget sunscreen to defend against premature skin ageing and hyperpigmentation on the hands caused by damaging UV rays.
