It has been suggested for some time now that starting a blog is the next step in my career as an aesthetician and a business owner. I have worked in this industry for over 20 years and yet I still find myself wondering if anyone would really want to hear or read about my thoughts and opinions. In a world with so many opinions what would make mine worth reading? All I can say is that I’ve shared personal experiences and thoughts with family, clients, coworkers and friends every day and in return have received positive responses and suggestions that make me think I should share more. My husband and I talk “shop” often since becoming owners of the spa. His favourite saying is “you should put that in a blog”.
Where to start? Research. The blogging community has grown significantly, and as quoted by Joy Deangdeelert Cho “while everyone wants to know the secret to blog success, the common denominator is to have a genuine and passionate voice that readers can connect with”.
What am I passionate about? I grew up with an interest in skincare, make-up, hair care, and general health and wellness. I was continually borrowing my mom’s supply of face creams, body lotions, nail polish and whatever else I could find that made me feel good and my skin more comfortable. I faced my own challenges with skincare and I never imagined I would one day work in this field. Now it seems as though it was meant to be. My own skin and health challenges push me every day to learn more. And to continue to work on maintaining good habits to improve my health and wellness on a daily basis. Am I successful in doing this every day? Definitely not. I struggle at times, like anyone else. Don’t even get me started on the “pandemic funk” I feel every day. That’s another topic. My goal is that sharing these struggles will help to motivate me and possibly you if you have faced similar challenges. I didn’t have a lot of information available to me as I was growing up so it took a lot of trial and error trying different products.
So I will begin this blogging journey. I will share what I am passionate about, the helpful tips I’ve come up with over the years personally, and I hope you will let me know if there is something you find helpful or if you were able to learn from my experiences. Happy reading!
