I find myself thinking about this topic more frequently these days. However, as an Aesthetician and business owner, I feel like the reference to Wellness is used often without considering what it means.
As we navigate our business through the effects of COVID-19, including closures and loss of staff, it has me considering where our industry is headed. At The Follicle, we have strived to provide total head-to-toe relaxation and wellness-focused experiences for all our guests. But, in an industry that has become focused on beauty, I wonder, has health and wellness taken a back seat? It has reminded me that using our years of knowledge and experience to educate our guests about our spa’s offerings is more important than ever.
What does a Wellness experience mean to me?
TOUCH THERAPY and EDUCATION.
What is Touch Therapy? When you arrive in our spa and salon, we consult with you to customize your spa/salon experience. We strive to provide you with the best possible treatment, educate you on maintaining your results at home, help you relax, and ensure you feel pampered, all while we are in direct contact with you. Whether it’s massaging your scalp during a shampoo, massaging your feet during a pedicure, applying a salt scrub during a body treatment, or applying warm compresses to your face during a facial treatment, touch therapy is what we are providing.
How does touch therapy benefit us? Physically we feel the tension release from tired or sore muscles, circulation is increased, lymphatic drainage is triggered, oxygenation of the cells in the skin begins, and skin feels soothed and soft. The care and attention we provide leads to you feeling more relaxed, uplifted and happy, and we know that leads to improved overall physical and mental health. So in a time when we have been asked to physically distance ourselves from others to protect our health, touch therapy is more powerful and beneficial than ever.
As our industry evolves, aesthetics skills are changing. We are trained in overall body and skin health, and the addition of treatments using machines such as IPL, laser, body contouring, and microdermabrasion, as well as injectables, to name a few, have become the focus. There is a place in the industry for these procedures, but new graduates, in my experience, prefer practicing those treatments instead of traditional services involving hands-on therapies. Does it mean old-fashioned? Definitely not. Spa treatments have been around for hundreds of years. Spas have been and still are a place you visit to unwind, recover, treat, and focus on your health and wellness. However, as COVID-19 continues and we are in a fourth wave, self-care has become more critical.
Self-care has become a trendy buzzword. We are taking time for ourselves and looking after our wellness at home due to COVID-19 restrictions and closures. For some, that is achievable at home. For others, the time and ability to do your treatments at home may not be easy. It is more convenient for you to come to the spa to receive your treatment, plus you can get away from day-to-day stresses and unplug.
When you enter our spa and salon, we make you our focus. Allowing us the opportunity to take care of you will benefit you in so many ways. We are all experiencing similar challenges through the pandemic, and having someone to listen to you and pamper you while providing a service is a win for both parties.
Whether you are relaxing and chatting with your Aesthetican/Stylist about your week or tucked away in a quiet, warm treatment room, perhaps experiencing a pampering facial or aromatherapy massage, you are our number one focus. Your comfort, care and safety are our priority. Making you feel the best you can and seeing you leave with a relaxed body and spirit is what makes us most proud of what we offer—touch therapy.
EDUCATION
Another powerful word. Why is it so important to us in our industry? Do you know the saying “Knowledge is power”? It’s true. In the beauty industry that is constantly growing and changing, from treatment modalities to new products being developed, it can be very overwhelming as a consumer.
Early in my skin and health care journey, I learned that I needed to find as much information as possible about my personal needs BEFORE buying products or trying treatments. There is so much information available that it is hard to know where to begin. I can tell you that being a professional in this industry has taught me so much. It took a lot of years to get to the point where I felt confident making decisions about purchases for products that I know will benefit me—no more wasted money on products that don’t work or cause a reaction. My team members and I also learn from our guests’ experiences.
We all have skin, hair, and body conditions and experiences to share that are unique. That’s the best part of coming into our spa and salon. We get excited to share personal and professional experiences with our guests and help guide them through their body, skin and hair challenges. We do that through experience and education. We continually strive to learn and stay updated on industry news, updates and changes in all areas of the industry. That assists us in guiding you to find the best products, treatments and solutions to whatever challenges you may be facing.
So what can we offer you? Calming, balancing, beneficial results-driven treatments using “touch therapy” while providing knowledge and experience to help you navigate your health and wellness journey at home.
We’re here for you and invite you to experience our “Soothing Solutions for Your Well-Being.”
